The Volkswagen ID. Buzz revives the shape of the classic Type 2 microbus as a fully electric minivan. It sits on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, is built in Hanover, and reached the market in 2024 in Europe and North America.
Body. Two lengths are offered. The short-wheelbase van measures 4,712 mm and seats five; the long-wheelbase version stretches to 4,962 mm, adds a third row, and seats up to seven. Both use sliding rear doors and the upright, flat-floor packaging that the electric platform makes possible.
Powertrain. The mainstream Pro drives the rear wheels through a 286 hp motor, while the performance GTX adds a front motor for all-wheel drive and 335 hp. The long-wheelbase cars carry an 86 kWh battery (91 kWh gross) good for up to roughly 485 km on the WLTP cycle; the short-wheelbase van uses a 79 kWh pack.
Camper conversion. Volkswagen offers a Good-Night package that turns the van into a light electric camper without the heavy built-in furniture of a full motorhome: a bed frame over the rear seats, a folding 2.0 x 1.2 m mattress, blackout blinds, window vents, and a folding table with two chairs. An overnight mode runs the climate control from the traction battery for up to 48 hours, and the vehicle-to-load function delivers 230 volts at up to 2,000 watts for a fridge, kettle or e-bike charger. The package costs €2,600 (about $2,830) in Germany.
