GermanyBMW is testing the second generation of its largest SUV. A camouflaged X7 prototype, internally coded G67, has been filmed lapping the Nurburgring, and the car carries four exhaust tips. On a BMW that normally means a V8, which would make this the M60 version of a range BMW has confirmed for a 2027 debut. BMW has published no specifications. The engine is expected to be the 4.4-litre twin-turbo, and no output has been stated for it in this car, so any figure quoted today is the outgoing model’s.
The iX7 joins the range
For the first time the X7 name gains a battery-electric sibling, the iX7, coded G69. Reports put it on the same CLAR architecture as the combustion car, with the two sharing one body structure from launch and being built alongside each other, rather than the arrangement BMW used with the 7 Series, where the electric i7 arrived as a separate product line on a shared platform.
What the iX7 is reported to take from Neue Klasse is the hardware rather than the platform: the next-generation batteries and motors that arrived with the iX3. None of it has been confirmed by BMW, which has not announced the model at all.

The prototypes point to the same interior BMW is rolling out across the range: iDrive X, and Panoramic Vision, the strip of information projected across the base of the windscreen in place of an instrument cluster. Flush door handles are visible on the test cars, shared with the new X5. The split headlights and the large upright grille stay, so the car is still recognisable as an X7 from either end.
Production continues at Spartanburg in South Carolina, where every X7 has been built since 2018 and where the new X5 was revealed. The reveal is expected in 2027, with series production reported for the second half of that year.
