BMW has revealed the petrol 3 Series, the eighth-generation G50 sedan. It shares its styling and cabin with the electric i3, but the two sit on different platforms.
BMW 3 Series and i3: two platforms
The electric i3 is built on Neue Klasse, BMW’s dedicated EV platform. The petrol car keeps an updated version of the CLAR platform from the previous 3 Series. Every petrol version is a 48V mild hybrid.
Drift Moment on the M350 xDrive
The range-topping M350 xDrive pairs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder with 326 kW (443 PS) and 580 Nm, and reaches 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. It adds Drift Moment, a new setting that cuts the front axle out of the drive so the car is rear-wheel drive only. On US cars it is switched on with stability control off and arrives as a software update during 2027, according to Bimmerfile.
US prices and timing
US prices run from $49,900 for the 330 to $65,900 for the M350 xDrive, before a $1,350 destination charge. Dingolfing starts production in November 2026 and US deliveries follow in the first quarter of 2027. BMW has not priced the car for Europe and says a plug-in hybrid will follow within a year of the reveal.
