ChinaChina’s MIIT type-approval filing for the second-generation BYD Seagull describes a new body on a longer wheelbase, with the motor moved to the rear axle. It is 4,205 mm long, 425 mm more than the first-generation car’s 3,780 mm, and it drives the rear wheels instead of the front.
Second-generation Seagull size and motor
The filing gives a 95 kW (127 hp) motor on the rear axle, and CarNewsChina reports a top speed of 150 km/h. The first-generation Seagull drives its front wheels with a 55 kW motor and tops out at 130 km/h. The wheelbase grows from 2,500 mm to 2,650 mm, and Autohome lists the body at 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall.

The filing also lists five seats and an independent multi-link rear suspension in place of the first generation’s torsion beam. Moving the motor to the rear frees the space under the bonnet, and the car gets a front trunk. CarNewsChina’s follow-up reporting puts it at about 94 litres.
Second-generation Seagull interior and driver assistance
The separate instrument cluster is gone, leaving the central touchscreen as the main display. Around it: a two-spoke steering wheel, physical switches and a wireless phone charger. Higher trims are listed with BYD’s DiPilot 300 driver-assistance package, which adds a roof-mounted lidar.
