ChinaGeely has unveiled the Thunder 16-in-1 Intelligent E-Drive, a new electric drive unit that combines 16 systems into a single compact module. The company says the unit reaches 93.8% efficiency, among the best figures reported for a production electric drive unit.

Geely’s engineers folded 12 hardware components - the electric motor, inverter, reducer, onboard charger, DC/DC converter and several control units among them - together with 4 software systems that manage energy, charging, drive and powertrain health. Combining them into one module cut the part count by more than 180, brought the unit’s weight down to 75 kg, and reduced high-voltage wiring volume by 30% and low-voltage wiring by 15%.
First application
The new drive unit has already reached production, debuting on the Galaxy TT Ultra, the performance version of Geely’s recently revealed Galaxy TT electric sedan, which opened pre-sales on July 21, 2026. The Ultra rides on an 800V architecture with two motors making a combined 578 hp, reaching 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. It draws from a 75.2 kWh CATL battery for a CLTC range of 650 km.
Geely says a Galaxy TT Ultra fitted with the new unit has recorded energy consumption as low as 8.2 kWh/100 km in a controlled test, with a CLTC-rated figure of 10.7 kWh/100 km. The company is positioning both numbers as a new efficiency benchmark for its future electric models.
Update: standard across the range
15 August 2026. The unit is no longer an Ultra-only part. When the Galaxy TT’s volume versions opened pre-sales on 13 August, Geely fitted the 16-in-1 e-drive to all of them as standard, alongside the 800V platform and a 6C charging rate. Three rear-wheel-drive versions are on offer, each using a single 245 kW (333 hp) motor:
- 540 RWD Premium, ¥145,900 ($21,500), 52.4 kWh, 540 km CLTC
- 540 RWD Deluxe, ¥155,900 ($22,900), 52.4 kWh, 540 km CLTC
- 640 RWD Flagship, ¥169,900 ($25,000), 63.8 kWh, 640 km CLTC
The Ultra stays at ¥209,800 ($30,900) and is capped at 999 cars.
The Geely Galaxy TT is a C-segment electric sports sedan for China, in pre-sale since August 2026 from ¥145,900 ($21,500). It rides on Geely's GEA platform with an 800V architecture, a CATL Shenxing battery and 6C charging. Three rear-drive versions use a 245 kW (333 hp) motor for 540 or 640 km CLTC; the limited Ultra adds a second motor for 578 hp and 650 km.
