Geely has started taking orders for a hybrid version of the fifth-generation Emgrand, the compact sedan that launched in petrol form in the autumn of 2025. The new variant adds an i-HEV full-hybrid system, which works without a charging plug, unlike the related Galaxy Starshine 6 that uses a plug-in setup.
The hybrid system
The i-HEV drives the front wheels through a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine rated at 112 hp and 136 Nm, working with an electric motor that produces 190 hp and 240 Nm. Geely quotes combined fuel use of 3.83 l/100km on the WLTC cycle.
Same body, same cabin
Dimensions are unchanged from the petrol car: 4,815 mm long, 1,885 mm wide, 1,480 mm tall, on a 2,755 mm wheelbase. The hybrid looks identical apart from optional 17-inch wheels in place of the standard 16-inch set.
Equipment is generous for the price. There is climate control, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring, a sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking, and heated and ventilated front seats.
Price
In China the i-HEV runs from 87,900 to 97,900 yuan ($13,000 to $14,500). The petrol Emgrand remains on sale from 74,900 yuan ($10,400). Geely has not announced the hybrid for export.
