smart calls it more than 200 changes, but the one that matters is under the floor: the second-generation #1, launched in China on August 6, moves the entire range onto an 800V silicon-carbide platform, a first for the model and still an unusual spec at this price. Most automakers reserve 800V hardware for pricier flagships, since the switch from a 400V system adds cost throughout the electrical architecture.

That architecture, paired with a new 16-in-1 integrated electric drive unit, lets a 61.52 kWh LFP battery support 6C charging - 10 to 80% in a claimed 12 minutes. CLTC range is rated at 535 km, and a single rear motor produces 328 hp and 320 Nm, enough for 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Two trims launch with identical powertrain specs: the 535 Max at ¥149,900 ($22,080) and the 535 Ultra at ¥169,900 ($25,020), with list prices of ¥152,900 and ¥172,900 respectively. The gap between them is driver-assist hardware rather than performance - the Ultra adds a roof lidar, an Nvidia Orin Y chip and smart’s G-ASD H5 assisted-driving system as standard, options the Max buyer can add separately.

The #1 remains the compact anchor of smart’s China lineup, sitting below the larger #3 and #5 and distinct from the smaller, two-seat #2 due in Europe from spring 2027. smart, the 50:50 joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, has not announced when the refreshed #1 will reach markets outside China.

The smart #2 is a compact two-seat city EV and the spiritual successor to the original ForTwo, built on Geely's new ECA (Electric Compact Architecture) platform. At 2.79 meters long it keeps the ForTwo's 6.95-meter turning circle, with a 35.7 kWh battery good for up to 300 km WLTP and 10-80 percent DC charging in under 20 minutes. European pricing is expected to start below 22,500 euros (about $24,300).

300 km RWD

The smart #6 EHD is the brand's first sedan and its largest model yet, a fastback plug-in hybrid for China built on Geely's SEA platform. The EHD powertrain pairs a 1.5T engine with an electric motor for 435 hp, with up to 285 km of electric range (CLTC) and a LiDAR unit as standard. Prices run from 179,900 to 229,900 yuan (about $25,100 to $32,100).
