Honda and Mitsubishi Motors signed a memorandum of understanding on 22 October 2026 to develop a Honda pickup truck based on the Mitsubishi Triton. The Honda is scheduled to go on sale in ASEAN markets in 2028. Neither company has announced a name, a design or specifications.

What the deal covers

Honda calls the Triton a one-ton pickup built on a ladder frame. For Honda, the agreement adds a pickup to a market where it offers none today, without developing a truck of its own. For Mitsubishi Motors, it adds production volume and better use of its plant in Thailand.

A step in the three-way partnership

This is the first time Honda and Mitsubishi Motors have supplied each other’s products. It sits inside the strategic partnership that Honda, Mitsubishi Motors and Nissan agreed on 1 August 2024. The three companies have been exploring supplying one another’s vehicles in different regions, and Honda says it will keep deepening that partnership.
