Beijing Hyundai has opened pre-orders on the Ioniq V, the first production car in the China-only Ioniq line it announced at Auto China in April. Three trims are offered, from 119,900 to 139,900 yuan ($17,700 to $20,600), and official sales begin in September.
The three trims
The 540 Max opens the range at 119,900 yuan ($17,700) with 540 km of CLTC range. The 540 Max+ costs 129,900 yuan ($19,200) for the same range and more equipment, and the 650 Max+ tops the range at 139,900 yuan ($20,600) with 650 km.
Two lithium iron phosphate packs from CATL sit under the three cars, 53.5 kWh and 66.8 kWh, driving a single front motor rated at 140 kW (188 hp) or 168 kW (225 hp). The fastback runs the 800-volt version of Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, the same electrical layout as the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. A higher pack voltage lets the car pull more power at a DC charger without heavier cabling, so a car on 800 volts can finish a fast-charging stop in fewer minutes than a 400-volt car on the same charger.
The car measures 4,900 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,470 mm tall on a 2,900 mm wheelbase.
Software from three Chinese partners
The driver-assistance system was co-developed with Momenta and offers L2+ assisted driving on highways, meaning the car steers, accelerates and brakes within its lane and changes lanes with the driver supervising. Momenta supplies the same class of software to several Chinese brands, and the arrangement means Hyundai is not shipping its own global stack in this market.
Inside, a single 27-inch 4K display runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chipset, with a head-up display above it. The infotainment uses AI models from Baidu and ByteDance for voice and search, which is again a local substitution rather than a Hyundai system.
What is still unannounced
Hyundai has said the range may later gain an extended-range version, an EV with a petrol engine acting only as a generator, but has released no specifications, price or date for it. The Ioniq V is the first of 20 models Beijing Hyundai and BAIC have committed to launching in China over five years.
The Hyundai Ioniq 3 is a compact electric hatchback for Europe, revealed during Milan Design Week 2026 with UK prices from £22,245 and first deliveries still to be dated. It offers 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh battery options with WLTP range up to 496 km, and is not planned for the US market.
