Jetta, the budget sub-brand FAW-Volkswagen created for China in 2019, has revealed its first electric vehicle. The M6 is a sedan built on a new platform developed jointly with Chinese partners, rather than the older Volkswagen architecture underpinning the rest of the Jetta lineup, and it marks the brand’s first step beyond combustion power.
Sized close to a Passat
The M6 is close in size to a Volkswagen Passat: 4,806 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, 1,500 mm tall, on a 2,820 mm wheelbase. Styling adds a glass roof, semi-hidden door handles, active shutters in the front bumper, and a new Jetta emblem, along with 17- or 18-inch wheels.
Front-wheel drive only
Power comes from a single front-mounted electric motor in two states of tune, 113 kW (152 hp) or 145 kW (194 hp); there is no all-wheel-drive option. FAW-Volkswagen has not disclosed the battery capacity.
Pre-sales opened on 28 September at 80,800 to 99,800 yuan (~$12,000–14,800) across three versions, with CLTC range of 465 or 555 km and full prices on the M6 page. The launch extends Volkswagen’s electrification push down to its lowest-priced brand after the mainstream ID. family’s move into entry-level models in China.
