Li Auto has launched the second generation of the L9, its flagship six-seat SUV. The first L9 arrived in 2022 and became one of the reference points for the modern Chinese premium SUV; the new car keeps that formula but adds a new electrical architecture and chassis hardware. Sales are open in China.
Powertrain
The L9 sticks with Li Auto’s extended-range layout. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works purely as a generator and never drives the wheels; two electric motors handle propulsion, producing 571 hp and 710 Nm together. A 72.7 kWh battery delivers 420 km of electric range on the CLTC cycle, extending to 1,650 km combined with the range extender running. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 4.9 seconds. The car measures 5,255 mm long and 2,000 mm wide on a 3,125 mm wheelbase, weighing 2,755 kg.
Steer-by-wire and a roll-free chassis
The biggest changes are underneath. The second-generation car moves to an 800V architecture and adds steer-by-wire and four-wheel steering across the range. Suspension differs by trim: the L9 Ultra rides on adaptive air suspension, while the higher L9 Livis uses an active 800V electrohydraulic system that Li Auto says removes body roll in corners entirely.
Both trims carry a lidar unit and a full driver-assistance suite running on Li Auto’s Mach M100 chip - one chip in the Ultra, two in the Livis, each rated at 1,280 TOPS.
Interior
The cabin keeps the six-seat, three-row layout and adds a 29-inch dashboard display, a 21-inch ceiling screen for the second row, a 5,440 W audio system with 33 speakers, a 10-litre refrigerator, and heating built into the headrests and armrests.
Pricing
The L9 Ultra starts at ¥459,800 (about $67,900) and the L9 Livis at ¥509,800 (about $75,300). No markets outside China have been announced.
