Mazda’s FY2025 annual report, published this month, lists a second-generation CX-3 among the models scheduled for introduction in the 2027 fiscal year. It is the first official confirmation that the nameplate will continue.
The current CX-3 has been in production since 2014 — twelve years, which makes it the longest-running model in Mazda’s active lineup. The subcompact crossover was never updated significantly after its launch generation; Mazda instead focused its engineering resources on the larger CX-5 and CX-60 platforms.
What is confirmed — a new generation is coming, and it will include an electrified variant. The type of electrification has not been specified: it could be a mild hybrid, a full self-charging hybrid (as in the current Yaris Cross and Honda HR-V), or a plug-in. Platform details have not been announced.
Design direction — no teasers have been published for the production CX-3. The images above show the Vision X-Compact concept, which Mazda displayed at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. The company described it as representing “Mazda’s future design direction for compact models.” The concept features the brand’s Kodo design language in a more upright, lighter-coloured interpretation than previous concepts.
The second-generation CX-3 will compete against the Toyota Yaris Cross, Volkswagen T-Cross, and Renault Captur — all of which have already been updated for the mid-decade.
