Land Rover opened orders for the Range Rover Electric on 2 September, the first battery version of a nameplate that has been built at Solihull since 1970. It starts at $138,000 in the United States before destination and £154,070 (about $208,200) on the road in the UK, and it comes down the same assembly line as the petrol and plug-in hybrid cars rather than a separate one.
Power, battery and range
Two permanent-magnet motors, one per axle, are each rated at 260 kW. Combined system output is 542 hp (405 kW) and 850 Nm, which gets the car to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The battery is a double-stack lithium-ion pack of 344 prismatic cells, 118.5 kWh usable, running on an 800-volt architecture.
The range figure depends on which market’s paperwork you read. The UK car is rated at 372 miles (599 km) on the WLTP cycle; the US car is rated at 333 miles (535 km) by the EPA. It is the same battery and the same car, measured two different ways, so the two numbers are not a revision of each other. On a 350 kW DC charger, 10 to 80 percent takes around 22 minutes, and Land Rover quotes about 220 km of WLTP range recovered in ten minutes.
The off-road numbers carried over
The wading depth stays at 900 mm, the figure the combustion Range Rover has held for years, which is the part of the brief an electric drivetrain most obviously threatens.
Two other numbers come from the switch rather than survive it. The traction control now reacts in 50 milliseconds, roughly a hundred times quicker than a system waiting on a combustion engine to change its torque output, because an electric motor can be told to stop pushing and do it within a wheel rotation. And the car will hold a controlled one-pedal descent on slopes of up to 45 degrees, using motor braking rather than the friction brakes, so the driver keeps both feet still on a gradient where the usual technique is careful pedal work.
Towing, trims and the platform
Towing is the trade. The Electric is rated at 2,500 kg, against 3,500 kg for the V8 and 3,000 kg for the plug-in hybrid, so a caravan or a horsebox is the one job the battery car does less of than its siblings.
The range spans SE, HSE and Autobiography, then the SV, SV Black and SV Ultra cars above them, in standard and long-wheelbase bodies, with a First Edition at launch. It sits on JLR’s MLA-Flex platform, the aluminium architecture designed from the start to take combustion, plug-in hybrid and battery power on one line, which is why Solihull did not need a dedicated EV plant to build it.
The fifth member of the Range Rover family and the first designed as an electric car from the outset, previewed in prototype form in July 2026.
