Croatia has approved Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, and Tesla said on 29 September that the rollout there will start soon. Croatia is the eighth European country to allow it, after the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia and Czechia. The country’s State Office for Metrology, which handles vehicle homologation, confirmed the approval on 28 September.
What the system is
Despite the name, FSD Supervised does not make a Model 3 or Model Y self-driving. It is a SAE Level 2 driver-assistance system: the driver has to watch the road at all times and be ready to take over.
No EU-wide approval yet
The approvals are arriving one country at a time. The Dutch regulator RDW proposed approving the system across the whole EU, but some member states and safety experts raised objections. The vote, first expected in October, has been postponed, and the next chance for a decision is not before December.
Until then the system is legal in some EU countries and not in others. Tesla’s own claims about the hardware in its cars are covered in a separate piece on HW4 and FSD v15.
