The Tesla Model 3 is a battery-electric sedan and the car that brought Tesla to volume production. It received a substantial update in 2024, known internally as “Highland”, which changed roughly half of the car’s components and brought new styling, a quieter cabin, and a rear passenger screen. The Model 3 measures 4,720 mm long on a 2,875 mm wheelbase and is built for China at Gigafactory Shanghai.
The Chinese lineup covers four versions. The rear-drive Model 3 uses a CATL LFP battery for 634 km of CLTC range. The Long Range RWD, marketed as the Model 3+, switches to a 78.4 kWh LG ternary battery and a 225 kW rear motor for 830 km of CLTC range and 250 kW DC fast charging, the longest range in the family. The Long Range AWD adds a front motor for 753 km, and the Performance model focuses on acceleration with a 0 to 100 km/h time of around 3.1 seconds.
Like the rest of the range, the Model 3 runs Tesla’s software platform with over-the-air updates and Supercharger access. The interior centres on a single 15.4-inch touchscreen.
Pricing starts from ¥235,500 (~$35,000) for the rear-drive version, with the Long Range RWD from ¥259,500 (~$38,600).
Canada is supplied from the same Shanghai plant. The Model 3 Premium RWD sold there starts at C$39,490 (~$28,800) before delivery, rated at 463 km with 175 kW peak DC charging and 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, using a 194 kW (260 hp) rear motor and a lithium iron phosphate pack. A Premium AWD version follows at C$49,990 (~$36,500) with 572 km of range. Neither qualifies for Canada’s federal electric-vehicle rebate, which is limited to cars built in Canada or in a country with a free-trade agreement.
