SAIC-Volkswagen has published the first official interior images of the ID.Era 5S and confirmed the sedan’s key powertrain figures. The car is due on the Chinese market before the end of 2026.
Cabin
The 5S interior moves away from the dual-screen arrangement used in the ID.Era 9X crossover. A single large central touchscreen takes the centre of the dashboard, joined by a dedicated passenger display and a head-up display. Physical controls are kept to a minimum. Blue exterior ambient lighting signals the car’s autonomous-driving capability.
Powertrain
The 5S uses an EREV architecture. A 1.5-litre petrol engine developing 109 hp operates as a dedicated range extender, generating electricity for a 177 hp drive motor rather than connecting mechanically to the wheels. CLTC-rated electric range is 160 km; total range with a full tank exceeds 2,000 km. Fuel consumption with the battery depleted is 2.82 litres per 100 km.
Driver assistance
The 5S runs SAIC-Volkswagen’s CoreRun L2++ system, which covers both highway and urban navigate-on-autopilot. Unlike the ID.Era 9X crossover, the 5S does not carry lidar.
Timeline
Launch is planned before the end of 2026 for the Chinese market. Pricing and the full specification sheet have not been released. The ID.Era family is developed exclusively for China and will not be offered in other markets.
