Overview

The Electra L7 is a rear-drive electric sedan that SAIC-GM opened for pre-sale in China in August 2026, the second model in Buick’s new-energy Electra line after the plug-in hybrid Electra E7 SUV. It comes in three trims, and every published price appears in two forms: a post-subsidy figure of ¥169,900, ¥186,900 or ¥206,900 ($25,190 / $27,690 / $30,690), and a pre-incentive list price of ¥194,900, ¥211,900 or ¥231,900. The two sets are roughly ¥25,000 apart, and English coverage has largely quoted one without saying which.

A single rear motor makes 378 hp, and Buick quotes 702 km on the CLTC cycle - a figure measured at lower average speeds than WLTP or EPA testing, so it does not translate directly to a European or American rating. Fast charging adds a claimed 450 km in 10 minutes, though Buick has not published the state of charge that figure starts from.

The L7 continues the Electra family’s design language - a shield-style grille and full-width light bar - already seen on the Electra E7, and shares SAIC-GM’s China-developed new-energy platform strategy with it. Pre-sales opened first; an on-sale date and full specification have not been announced.

Buick sells the Electra E7 and L7 only in China for now, though SAIC-GM has named the E7 as the first Chinese-built Buick bound for export from October 2026, to the Middle East, Africa, South America, Mexico and the Asia-Pacific.

What is CLTC?

CLTC is the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, the range figure carmakers must quote in China. Its low average speed makes it the most optimistic of the major cycles.
