Overview

Geely Xingyuan platform and positioning

The Geely Xingyuan is a subcompact electric hatchback built for high-volume, budget-focused buyers. It measures 4,135 mm long with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, placing it in the B-segment alongside other small city EVs. Geely launched it in China in September 2024, and by 2025 it had become one of the country’s best-selling cars of any type.

Geely Xingyuan range and charging

Two powertrains are offered, both driving the rear wheels. The entry version pairs a 78 hp motor with a 30 kWh CATL lithium-iron-phosphate battery for 310 km of CLTC range and a 125 km/h top speed. The higher version steps up to 114 hp and a 41 kWh battery, lifting CLTC range to 410 km and top speed to 135 km/h. Both use an integrated 11-in-1 electric drive unit to keep cost and packaging tight.

Inside the Geely Xingyuan

Inside, the Xingyuan centres on a 14.6-inch touchscreen running Geely’s Flyme Auto operating system, with six airbags and an L2 driver-assistance suite included. The cabin prioritises usable space over outright width, a typical trade-off for the class.

Geely Xingyuan price and trims

Pricing starts from ¥59,800 (~$8,900), which is what underpins its sales volume. The car is also exported under the Geely EX2 badge, broadening its reach beyond the domestic market. In the UK, the EX2 lineup opens with the Pro at GBP 20,990 (~$28,800), using a smaller 35 kWh battery and 82 hp motor for up to 251 km WLTP range, while the Max and Ultra step up to a 47 kWh battery, 114 hp and 344 km WLTP range, priced from GBP 23,490 (~$32,200) and GBP 25,490 (~$34,900) respectively.

The EX2 export car. The export version is not a rebadge of the Chinese specification. Geely fits different cells, 35 kWh on the Pro and 47 kWh on the Max and Ultra against 30 kWh and 41 kWh at home, and homologates the result on the WLTP cycle instead of CLTC. That produces 156 miles (251 km) for the Pro and 214 miles (344 km) for the other two, figures that sit below the Chinese numbers because the test is harder, not because the car is different. Motor output follows the battery: 82 hp in the Pro, 114 hp in the Max and Ultra, rear-wheel drive throughout. Charging runs at up to 80 kW DC and 6.6 kW AC, and the warranty covers up to eight years or 125,000 miles, with the same term on the battery.

Geely confirmed UK pricing in July 2026 and put the car into showrooms from August 2026, making the EX2 the first model of the company’s own-badge return to Britain after years of selling there only through Lotus, Polestar and the London Electric Vehicle Company. The same car reaches other markets under other names: Proton eMas 5 in Malaysia, built locally under the Geely-Proton partnership, and Geely E2 in South Africa. Brazil, Thailand and Vietnam take it as the EX2.

What is CLTC?

CLTC is the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, the range figure carmakers must quote in China. Its low average speed makes it the most optimistic of the major cycles.

What is WLTP?

WLTP is the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure, the homologation standard for Europe and much of Asia. It reads roughly 25% lower than CLTC.

Is the Geely EX2 the same car as the Geely Xingyuan?
Yes. EX2 is the export name for the car sold in China as the Xingyuan, and as the Geome Xingyuan under Geely's Geome sub-brand. The export version is not identical on paper: it uses 35 kWh and 47 kWh batteries against China's 30 kWh and 41 kWh, and its range is quoted on the stricter WLTP cycle rather than CLTC. Malaysia sells the same car as the Proton eMas 5 and South Africa as the Geely E2.
How much does the Geely EX2 cost in the UK?
Geely confirmed UK pricing in July 2026 at GBP 20,990 on the road for the Pro, GBP 23,490 for the Max and GBP 25,490 for the Ultra, with showroom deliveries from August 2026. It is the first model of Geely's own-badge return to the UK market.
What is the range of the Geely EX2?
Up to 156 miles (251 km) WLTP for the 35 kWh Pro and up to 214 miles (344 km) WLTP for the 47 kWh Max and Ultra. The Chinese Xingyuan quotes 310 km and 410 km, but on the more optimistic CLTC cycle, so the two sets of figures are not comparable.
How fast does the Geely EX2 charge?
Up to 80 kW on a DC rapid charger, with a 6.6 kW onboard charger for AC charging at home or at a public post. Geely covers the EX2 with a warranty of up to eight years or 125,000 miles, matched by an eight-year, 125,000-mile battery warranty.
