The Lepas L4 is the smallest SUV in Chery’s global sub-brand, arriving as a rebadged version of the second-generation Chery Tiggo 5. It shares Chery’s LEX platform and measures 4,406 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall on a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It launched in South Africa in February 2026, one of Lepas’s first markets outside China.
Three trims cover a single powertrain family. The entry Amur pairs a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine (107 hp, 148 Nm) with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the Javan and Pantera both step up to a 1.5-litre turbo producing 145 hp and 235 Nm through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.9 L/100 km for the Amur and 7.0 L/100 km for the turbo pair.
Standard equipment on the Amur includes 16-inch alloy wheels, four airbags, an 8.0-inch instrument cluster, and a 9.9-inch touchscreen with a reverse camera. The Javan adds drive modes, stop-start, 17-inch wheels, cruise control, a larger 13.2-inch touchscreen, LED headlamps, and a rear wiper. The range-topping Pantera brings six airbags, a 540-degree camera, keyless entry and start, a sunroof, ventilated seats, and a full ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.
An electric L4 was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026, in Lepas’s first wave of NEV models alongside the L6 EV and L6 PHEV. It keeps the same LEX-platform body and multi-link rear suspension, with a single front motor of 160 kW (215 hp). Lepas describes “500 km-class” range with fast charging but has not disclosed battery capacity or a test cycle; outside estimates based on the related Jaecoo J5 EV put the pack around 61 to 67 kWh. Sales are expected around October 2026 in markets including Australia, and pricing has not been announced.
Lepas backs the L4 with a 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty for the first owner, and a 5-year/75,000 km service plan. Prices in South Africa run from R299,900 for the Amur to R419,900 for the Pantera.
