Evoque platform and positioning
The Evoque is the compact model in the Range Rover family. The current, second-generation car was revealed in London in November 2018 and sits on JLR’s PTA platform. It is built at Halewood in England and at plants in India and Brazil. China had its own long-wheelbase version, the Evoque L, built by the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture at Changshu. That car has since been discontinued. The global Evoque has 212 mm of ground clearance and can wade through 530 mm of water.
Evoque powertrain
The US gets one engine, the P250: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four with 246 hp and 269 lb-ft (365 Nm), a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
The UK gets three families, all with an automatic gearbox. The P160 is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol mild hybrid and the only front-wheel-drive Evoque in the UK, reaching 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds. The 2.0-litre diesel mild hybrid comes as the D165 (161 hp, 380 Nm) or the D200 (201 hp, 430 Nm), both with all-wheel drive and a towing limit of up to 2,000 kg.
Evoque plug-in hybrid range and charging
The P270e puts the same 1.5-litre three-cylinder on the front axle and an 80 kW electric motor on the rear. Together they make 265 hp and 540 Nm. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. The battery holds 11.98 kWh. It gives 60 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle, and Land Rover expects about 47 km in real-world driving. On a 7 kW wallbox it charges to 100 percent in 2 hours 12 minutes. On a 32 kW DC charger it reaches 80 percent in 30 minutes. The hybrid system adds weight: this version weighs 2,157 kg on the EU measure, against 1,941 kg for a D200, and it tows up to 1,600 kg.
Inside the Evoque
The boot holds 472 litres behind the rear seats and 1,156 litres with them folded (both measured with VDA blocks up to the roof lining). Rear legroom is up to 864 mm.
Evoque price and trims
In the United States the Evoque S starts at $49,900 and the Hoxton Edition at $55,100, both before a $1,475 destination charge. In the UK the range starts at £44,855 (~$61,400) for a Dynamic S, then £48,225 (~$66,100) for the Hoxton Edition Black and £56,185 (~$77,000) for the Autobiography. The P270e costs £49,540 (~$67,900) as a Dynamic S.
