Renault 5 platform and positioning
The Renault 5 is the electric revival of the 1972 supermini, unveiled in production form at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2024 and built at Renault’s ElectriCity site in Douai, France. It rides on the AmpR Small platform it shares with the Alpine A290 and the Nissan Micra EV, and measures 3,922 mm long on a 2,540 mm wheelbase.
Renault 5 powertrain, range and charging
Two batteries are on sale in most markets. The 40 kWh Urban Range pairs with a 90 kW motor (badged 120 hp) for up to 315 km of WLTP range; the 52 kWh Comfort Range pairs with a 110 kW motor (badged 150 hp) for up to 430 km and 8.0 seconds to 100 km/h. DC charging peaks at 80 kW and 100 kW respectively, each taking about 30 minutes from 15 to 80 percent.
In August 2026 Renault added a 36.5 kWh LFP entry car called the Five, with an 80 kW motor, up to 305 km of WLTP range, 80 kW DC and 6.6 kW AC charging. It replaces the 95 PS 40 kWh car in France and is not offered in Germany or the UK as of October 2026.
