The smart #6 EHD is the first sedan from smart and the largest car the brand has built. It is a fastback plug-in hybrid for the Chinese market, on sale now. smart is the 50:50 joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, and the #6 follows the usual split: Mercedes-led design from Germany, Geely engineering underneath.
Platform and size. The #6 rides on Geely’s SEA architecture. It is 4,906 mm long and 1,922 mm wide on a 2,926 mm wheelbase, with a 525-litre boot under the liftback tailgate.
Powertrain. The EHD plug-in-hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine making 163 hp with an electric motor rated at 273 hp, for a combined 435 hp and 635 Nm. Drive goes to the front wheels only. The entry 1675 Pro uses a 20 kWh battery for 135 km of electric range (CLTC) and reaches 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. The 1810 Max and Ultra step up to a 41.46 kWh pack for 285 km of electric range and a 6.7-second 0 to 100 km/h time.
Equipment. A LiDAR unit is standard across the range. Inside there is a 10.2-inch driver’s cluster and two 13-inch multimedia screens, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and two-zone climate. The Max and Ultra add a lifting rear spoiler; the Ultra also gets matrix headlights and PixelTalk screens built into the lights. Higher trims add ventilated and massaging front seats and a head-up display.
Pricing. In China the #6 runs from 179,900 yuan (about $25,100) for the 1675 Pro to 229,900 yuan (about $32,100) for the 1810 Ultra. These are the on-sale guide prices.
