The fourth-generation Toyota Yaris is a supermini hatchback built on Toyota’s TNGA-B platform, measuring 3,940 mm long on a 2,560 mm wheelbase. In most European markets, including Italy, it is sold exclusively as a self-charging hybrid, without a conventional petrol-only option.
The hybrid system pairs a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and eCVT transmission, for a combined 116 hp in the standard Hybrid tune. A higher-output Hybrid 130 variant raises that to 130 hp using an uprated battery and control software, with no mechanical changes to the transmission. Both versions can run on electric power alone for short stretches at low speed, particularly in city driving.
The current Yaris retains Toyota’s compact hatchback proportions at 1,745 mm wide and up to 1,500 mm tall, with the hybrid battery packaged beneath the rear seats to preserve boot space. Outside Western Europe, some markets continue to offer 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre non-hybrid petrol engines alongside the hybrid lineup.
The Yaris remains one of the most established nameplates in the European supermini segment, competing in the same class as the Volkswagen Polo and Renault Clio, and it continues to place highly in monthly sales charts across markets including Italy and Poland.
