BYD's Qin Max lands 48 hours after the Seal 06

BYD put the Qin Max on sale in China on 13 August at ¥99,900 to ¥143,900 ($14,700 to $21,200), two days after launching the 2027 Seal 06 at ¥99,900 to ¥155,900. The two sedans share a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the same DM-i and EV powertrains and the same second-generation Blade battery, and their bodies are 4 mm apart in length. What separates them is the dealer network. See the BYD Qin Max model page.

BYD put the Qin Max on sale in China on 13 August 2026, in nine versions priced from ¥99,900 to ¥143,900 ($14,700 to $21,200). Two days earlier it had launched the 2027 Seal 06, in twelve versions from ¥99,900 to ¥155,900. The two cars sit on the same 2,820 mm wheelbase, take the same engines and motors, and differ by 4 mm in overall length.

Two cars, one set of hardware

The Qin Max measures 4,866 mm long and 1,880 mm wide; the Seal 06 is 4,870 mm long and 1,890 mm wide. Both are sold as a DM-i plug-in hybrid, pairing a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with a 175 kW drive motor, and as a rear-drive EV with a single motor of either 120 kW or 240 kW. Both quote up to 320 km of CLTC electric range for the hybrid and 2,370 km combined, and 530 km or 630 km for the EV. Both use BYD’s second-generation Blade battery with flash charging, and both carry the LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B driver assistance system, DiSus-C damping and an AR head-up display.

What differs is the badge and the shop it is sold in. The Qin Max belongs to the Dynasty range; the Seal 06 belongs to Ocean. BYD runs those as two separate dealer networks, and beyond the styling and the spread of trims, that is close to the whole distinction.

Why a carmaker does this deliberately

Two networks means two showroom floors that a buyer walks into instead of the other one. A gap in either line is not a saving, it is a customer who leaves without a car, so each network needs its own answer at every price point. BYD has organised its domestic lineup this way for years, which is why the Qin and the Seal, the Song and the Sealion, keep arriving as near-matched pairs.

The ranges are not identical in shape. The Seal 06 is offered in twelve versions to the Qin Max’s nine, and its EV line runs ¥12,000 further at the top, to ¥155,900 against ¥143,900. Both start at the same ¥99,900 for the cheapest DM-i.

The spec that travels

The number worth remembering is the charging. BYD quotes the Qin Max EV at 10 to 70 percent in five minutes and 10 to 97 percent in nine, with a year of free flash charging included. Battery capacity has not been published for any version, so the kWh figure behind those claims is still unknown.

Storage got engineering attention too: 27 stowage points, a 115-litre front boot and 523 litres at the back, opening to 1,450 litres. The 240 kW EV reaches 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The Qin Max is the third Qin nameplate, sitting above the Qin L and the Qin Plus, and the largest of the three. BYD has not announced an export programme for it.
