BYD has published official images of the Da Han, a new flagship sedan whose rear-drive version is rated at 1,008 km on China’s CLTC cycle. The name means “Great Han”, and the car does what the name suggests: it sits above the existing Han as the first D-segment sedan in BYD’s Dynasty line rather than replacing it.

The proportions carry the positioning. The Da Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall on a 3,130 mm wheelbase, with five seats. That wheelbase is the number worth holding onto, because it is where the range comes from as much as the battery does: a longer floor takes a bigger pack without a taller car, and the Da Han’s is a 102.326 kWh lithium iron phosphate Blade unit from BYD’s own FinDreams division, weighing 725.9 kg at 141 Wh/kg.

What the 1,008 km figure covers

Only the rear-drive car, and only on the CLTC cycle. That version uses a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor and is filed at either 970 or 1,008 km depending on specification, at an unladen weight between 2,260 and 2,325 kg. The all-wheel-drive version adds a second motor for 570 kW (764 hp) combined and drops to 820, 850 or 880 km on the identical battery, carrying 2,505 kg. CLTC is measured at lower average speeds than WLTP or EPA testing and returns higher numbers for the same car, so none of these figures translate directly to a European or American rating.

BYD says the pack supports flash charging but has not confirmed which generation of Blade cell the Da Han uses, and has published no charging times. Reporting that the car carries the second-generation Blade battery is an inference from the flash-charging claim rather than a BYD statement, and we are treating it as unconfirmed until the show.

A plug-in hybrid has been filed alongside the electric cars, which is the part most coverage has skipped. It pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged BYD472ZQB engine rated at 115 kW (154 hp) with a 200 kW (268 hp) drive motor and a 54.489 kWh battery for a claimed 470 km of electric-only running. BYD has not given it a combined system output.

Equipment confirmed so far is concentrated in the driver-assistance hardware: BYD’s DiPilot 5.0 suite, a roof-mounted lidar, cameras in the front fenders, and rear-wheel steering, which matters on a car this long.

The Da Han makes its public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show, which runs from 21 to 30 August 2026. BYD has not announced prices, trim names or an on-sale date, and the figures circulating in the Chinese press are estimates rather than guidance.
