BYD is preparing another flagship for its Ocean sub-brand, this time a large SUV: the Sealion 08. It follows the Seal 08 sedan and the Dynasty-family Datang SUV as the automaker’s latest flagship-tier launch, and it will lead the Ocean lineup’s crossovers above the smaller Sealion 7.
The Sealion 08 measures 5,115 mm long on a 3,030 mm wheelbase, with a five- or six-seat layout, a ceiling-mounted screen for rear passengers, footrests on the second-row seats, and a built-in refrigerator. Wheels run 20 or 21 inches.
Two powertrain families
BYD is offering the Sealion 08 as either a DM-i plug-in hybrid or a battery-electric SUV. The hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine (156 hp) with a 272 hp electric motor in front-wheel-drive form, or adds a second 272 hp motor on the rear axle for all-wheel drive; both hybrid variants share a 55.84 kWh battery.
The electric range spans a 435 hp single-motor rear-wheel-drive version on a 92 kWh pack, a longer-range 503 hp version on 115 kWh, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive flagship rated at 796 hp.
Chassis and driver assistance
BYD has fitted active air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and its God’s Eye lidar-based driver-assistance suite across the range. Pricing has not been announced.
China sales are expected to open in August 2026.

The BYD Datang is a full-size seven-seat electric SUV on 1,000V architecture with second-generation Blade Battery. Three variants: RWD from 408 hp / 800 km CLTC up to AWD 796 hp / 850 km. Range peaks at 950 km CLTC on the mid RWD. Prices from ¥239,900 in China.
