Ford opened sales of the updated China-market Explorer on July 6, 2026, with a lower starting price of ¥309,800, about $45,650. The car is built by the Changan Ford joint venture and is unrelated to the Explorer sold in the US or Europe.
The updated front end brings narrower LED headlights joined by a light bar, a wider grille, revised bumpers, and new taillights and wheel designs. Inside, the update adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 27-inch infotainment display running SYNC+ 3.0, a redesigned steering wheel, and an updated center console.
The powertrain carries over unchanged: a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder making 289 hp and 445 Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. Pricing spans ¥309,800 to ¥399,800, about $45,650 to $58,890, topping out with the off-road-focused Kunlun Pinnacle trim.
Ford builds three separate vehicles under the Explorer name. The China car is this Changan Ford gasoline SUV. Europe’s Explorer is a fully electric model on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The US Explorer runs on its own Ford platform and shares no body panels with either of the other two.
