Chery Jaguar Land Rover launched the Freelander 8 on 3 September, pricing it below both its own pre-sale figures and the target it had set for the car. List prices for the five-seat range run 309,900 to 399,900 yuan, and every trim carries a 20,000 yuan incentive - a buyable range of 289,900 to 379,900 yuan.
Correcting our own coverage
We reported at pre-sale that the entry car “lands 13 percent above” the 300,000 yuan segment the joint venture had said it was targeting. That was true of the pre-sale after-incentive price of 329,900 yuan. It is not true of the launch price: at 289,900 yuan after incentives, the entry Freelander 8 lands under the 300,000 yuan target, not above it.
Prices by trim
List prices are 309,900 yuan for the Pro, 349,900 yuan for the Max and 399,900 yuan for the Max+, each 20,000 yuan cheaper after incentives. A six-seat 2+2+2 layout adds 10,000 yuan to any trim. The 1,000-unit Limited Edition, listed at 459,900 yuan, sold out before the launch and is no longer available to order.
What stayed the same
The powertrain is unchanged from pre-sale: a 1.5T petrol engine working only as a generator, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system making a combined 610 kW (818 hp) and 813 Nm, and a 60.3 kWh CATL battery good for 310 km of pure-electric range on China’s CLTC cycle, charging 20-80% in 12 minutes on the car’s 800V platform. All versions share the same specification, so the price difference between trims buys equipment rather than performance.
The car also picked up a Guinness World Record during the launch window, completing a run to 6,002 metres in Tibet - one data point in a broader push to demonstrate the off-road system rather than the news itself. Current prices and specifications are on the Freelander 8 model page.
The Range Rover Evoque L is a long-wheelbase Evoque built in China by the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture and sold only there. It uses a 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo four with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, 245 hp and all-wheel drive through a nine-speed automatic, with R-Dynamic trim and 20-inch wheels standard. It launched at 429,800 yuan; as the joint venture winds down production before the end of 2026, dealers have discounted it to around half that.
