Land Rover is a marque of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), headquartered in Coventry, UK, and owned by Indian conglomerate Tata Motors. It built the first Range Rover in 1970 and the first Land Rover in 1948.
Since JLR’s 2023 reorganisation the company markets Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar as four separate brands, and keeps Land Rover as the endorsing marque that appears on and inside the three SUV brands’ cars. Under that arrangement the Defender and Discovery families sit here; Range Rover has its own page. JLR is transitioning to full electric, and the first battery-powered Range Rover went on sale in September 2026.
