Chery’s iCAUR V27 range-extender SUV now has a Long Range version, and the change is the battery: 51.2 kWh of CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) against 34.3 kWh in the earlier trims. Electric-only range rises to 300 km on the CLTC cycle, from 200 km (all-wheel drive) or 210 km (rear-wheel drive). It went on sale in China on 30 September.
The brand is called iCar in China and iCAUR everywhere else, because Apple holds the iCar trademark outside China.
iCAUR V27 Long Range prices
Two Long Range versions launched, both all-wheel drive: the Falcon 500 at 189,800 yuan (~$28,200) and the Falcon 700 at 203,800 yuan (~$30,300). Before the launch the V27 cost 169,800 to 196,800 yuan (~$25,200–29,200). The bigger battery adds 7,000 yuan (~$1,000) on each all-wheel-drive trim: the Falcon 500 goes from 182,800 to 189,800 yuan (~$27,200–28,200) and the Falcon 700 from 196,800 to 203,800 yuan (~$29,200–30,300).
What the 51.2 kWh battery changes on the V27
The V27 is a range extender: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine acts only as a generator and the wheels are always driven by electric motors. A 300 km CLTC figure means a daily commute can run without the engine starting. CLTC is China’s test cycle and reads more generously than WLTP, so expect less in mixed real driving.
Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 17 minutes, according to CarNewsChina. The car can power outside appliances at 6 kW.
Both versions have two motors with a combined 335 kW (about 449 hp). The Falcon 700 adds roof lidar and a Horizon Journey 6P chip (560 TOPS) for city driver assistance; the Falcon 500 uses a lighter package.
