smart is preparing to reveal the #2, the brand’s first compact two-seat city car in years and what smart is positioning as the spiritual successor to the original ForTwo. World premiere is set for October at the Paris Motor Show, with European sales starting in spring 2027.
The current smart lineup, sold under the Geely and Mercedes-Benz joint venture, has drifted toward larger #1 and #3 crossovers since the brand’s 2019 relaunch. The #2 marks a return to the ultra-compact city car smart was originally built around almost 30 years ago.
At 2.79 meters long, the #2 rides on ECA (Electric Compact Architecture), a platform Geely developed specifically for compact city EVs. smart says the car keeps the ForTwo’s signature maneuverability, with the same 6.95-meter turning circle as the outgoing model despite the new underpinnings. A 35.7 kWh battery is rated for up to 300 km of WLTP range, with DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes.
European pricing is expected to start below 22,500 euros (about $24,300), which would make the #2 one of the most affordable EVs in its class.
