Denza has published the specifications and interior of the N8, a five-seat electric SUV that BYD’s premium brand has cleared through Chinese certification. It measures 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,820 mm tall on a 3,075 mm wheelbase, which makes it 50 mm shorter than the six-seat N8L on an identical wheelbase. The two are separate models rather than long and short versions of one car, and the N8 is the five-seat one.
The badge is not new. Denza sold an N8 in 2023, a plug-in hybrid mid-size SUV, and the 2026 car shares nothing with it beyond the name.
Batteries and motor layouts
Certification filings list two second-generation Blade Battery packs, 105.8 kWh and 130.15 kWh, and four CLTC range figures: 1,003 km and 970 km on the larger pack, 840 km and 800 km on the smaller one. Denza has not said which motor configuration takes which figure.
Three motor configurations are certified. Two are single rear motors, at 320 kW (429 hp) and 370 kW (496 hp). The third is BYD’s e³ tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup - one 270 kW motor at the front, two 310 kW motors at the rear - for a combined 890 kW (1,194 hp), the same figure BYD quotes for the tri-motor Denza Z9S sedan. Top speed across the range is 240 km/h.
CLTC is measured at lower average speeds than WLTP or EPA testing, so a 1,003 km CLTC rating is not comparable to a European or American range figure for the same car. Denza rates charging at 10-70% in about five minutes and 10-97% in roughly nine minutes, on BYD’s own high-power chargers rather than ordinary public ones.
A dashboard with no instrument cluster
Denza showed the interior on August 19. There is no binnacle behind the steering wheel and no conventional head-up display projecting onto the glass. Instead a 1.1-metre strip runs along the base of the windscreen, which Denza calls a PHUD, and carries speed, navigation and driver-assistance alerts. The main display is a single 30-inch panel across the dashboard, split so the front passenger can run their own content.
Physical controls survive on the centre console: a faceted crystal rotary dial, hard keys for the drive modes and the DiSus suspension, and two wireless charging pads. The door panels keep switches for the seats and mirrors.
Denza has not announced prices or an on-sale date. The N8 already appears on China’s purchase-tax exemption catalogue, which normally comes a few months before a car goes on sale.
The Denza Z9S is BYD's premium-brand electric sedan, pre-sold in China from ¥319,800 ($47,100) with a claimed CLTC range up to 1,100 km - which Denza calls the longest of any mass-produced electric car. A tri-motor Performance version makes 1,194 hp and does 0-100 km/h in 2.68 seconds.
The Denza D9 is a seven-seat luxury MPV from BYD's Denza brand, sold as a DM-i plug-in hybrid with 401 km of CLTC electric range or as a pure EV with up to 800 km CLTC range. Prices start from ¥359,800.
