SAIC-Volkswagen launched the ID.Era 8X in China on 12 October, two weeks after pre-sales opened without prices. It is a five-seat range-extender SUV that sits below the six-seat ID.Era 9X, which VW announced in June.

Powertrain
A 1.5-litre turbocharged EA211 engine works only as a generator, at up to 105 kW (141 hp). The Pro drives its rear wheels with a single 220 kW (295 hp) motor and reaches 1,567 km of combined range. The Max has two motors for 370 kW (496 hp) and all-wheel drive, and does 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The two long-range versions carry a 65.2 kWh CATL battery and reach 1,602 km combined; their motor outputs were not published at launch.
Every version runs on an 800-volt architecture, and charging from 10 to 80% takes 16 minutes. The June filing listed 510 hp, which no launch version matches.
SAIC-Volkswagen also said the ID.Era 5X, the family’s first battery-electric model, a compact SUV 4,560 mm long, will go on sale in November.
