The ID.Era 8X is the third model in SAIC-Volkswagen’s ID.Era family for China, after the 9X crossover and the 5S sedan. It opened for pre-sale on 28 September 2026 and went on sale on 12 October 2026. It is built specifically for the Chinese market.
Positioning. The 8X sits directly below the flagship 9X. It measures 5,020 mm long, 1,997 mm wide and 1,750 mm tall on a 2,970 mm wheelbase, against 5,207 mm and 3,070 mm for the 9X, and seats five rather than six.
Powertrain. The 8X is an EREV on an 800-volt architecture. A 1.5-litre turbocharged EA211 engine works purely as a generator, with a maximum output of 105 kW (141 hp), and never drives the wheels. The Pro has a single rear motor of 220 kW (295 hp) and a 51.1 kWh battery rated at 373 km of electric range on the CLTC cycle, or 1,567 km combined with the engine. The Max uses two motors for 370 kW (496 hp) with all-wheel drive and reaches 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds; on the same battery it is rated at 340 km. The Max Long Range and Ultra Long Range use a 65.2 kWh CATL battery rated at 451 km electric and 1,602 km combined; their motor outputs were not published at launch. Charging from 10 to 80% takes 16 minutes.
Design. The styling mirrors the 9X, with reworked bumpers and headlights and semi-hidden door handles in place of the 9X’s pop-out units. A LiDAR unit sits above the windscreen as standard.
Prices. Official guide prices are 226,800 yuan (~$33,700) for the Pro, 249,800 yuan (~$37,100) for the Max, 269,800 yuan (~$40,100) for the Max Long Range and 289,800 yuan (~$43,100) for the Ultra Long Range. At launch each was offered at a limited-time price 20,000 yuan (~$3,000) lower, from 206,800 yuan (~$30,700).
