ChinaXPeng CEO He Xiaopeng named the United States as one of the markets his company has to reach eventually. What he did not name was a date.
“If the US government allows companies like ours to enter the market and build plants there, we will definitely take that opportunity,” he told WardsAuto.
The conditional is doing the work. Current US restrictions on Chinese automakers make a direct entry unlikely for now, and He was explicit that XPeng is waiting on a policy change rather than working toward a launch window.
Canada first
The nearer test is Canada. XPeng is in talks with Canadian authorities and local partners, but the company describes this as assessing whether a launch is possible, not preparing one.
Where the brand already sells
XPeng sells cars in Mexico today and is expanding across Europe, and it is looking at new production sites as part of that. The Xpeng G6 is a mid-size electric SUV coupe on an 800V platform, sold in Europe in three versions - a 252 hp Standard Range, a 295 hp Long Range good for 525 km WLTP, and a 485 hp AWD Performance that reaches 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Peak DC charging runs to 451 kW.
The second-generation Xpeng P7 is a five-metre electric liftback sedan on an 800V platform, with scissor doors on the top version and a 0.201 drag coefficient. China prices run from 219,800 yuan, with up to 820 km of CLTC range and 586 hp in AWD form.
