Xpeng has launched its flagship X9 electric MPV across seven European markets at the same time - Germany, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary - with first customer deliveries already under way. Going multi-country in one move, rather than phasing markets in one at a time, is an aggressive way to plant a large, expensive flagship in Europe.
The X9 is a full-size, seven-seat MPV on Xpeng’s 800V platform, with rear-wheel steering to make a vehicle this long easier to handle. The European lineup offers two battery sizes. The Standard Range uses a 94.8 kWh LFP battery and a 235 kW motor for up to 535 km of WLTP range; the Long Range moves to a 110 kWh NMC pack for up to 615 km; and the AWD Performance adds a second motor for 370 kW (496 hp) and a 5.9-second 0 to 100 km/h time while still managing up to 580 km. Charging peaks above 535 kW thanks to the 5C-capable architecture.
In Germany pricing opens at 77,600 euros (about $89,200) for the Standard Range, with the Long Range at 81,600 euros and the AWD Performance at 86,600 euros. That places the X9 firmly in premium-MPV territory, the segment served by established luxury vans.
The breadth of the launch is the story. Chinese brands have mostly entered Europe through SUVs and a handful of core markets; bringing a six-figure-capable flagship MPV to seven countries at once signals that Xpeng intends to compete at the top of the range, not just the value end. Whether buyers in those markets will pay flagship money for a newcomer’s badge is the open question.
