Mercedes-Benz’s Sindelfingen plant was founded in 1915 and has a history of more than one hundred and ten years, which makes it one of the oldest vehicle plants in the Mercedes-Benz Group. The site also houses the company’s research and development department. More than 31,500 people work there, about 19,000 of them in production.
The plant builds the Core and Top-End segments of the range, covering combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and electric cars. The list on Mercedes’ own plant page is the E-Class, S-Class, EQS, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, GLC and the electric AMG GT 4-door. Factory 56, built in 2020, produces electric Top-End models on the same assembly line as conventionally powered ones.
The AMG GT SUV is built in Hall 32, a hall converted for the AMG.EA electric platform. The body shell and paint are done at Sindelfingen as well, with the GT 53 the first version to come off the line.
