Overview

The Ford Kuga is Ford of Europe’s compact SUV, built at the company’s plant in Valencia, Spain. It measures 4,645 mm long, 1,882 mm wide and 1,681 mm tall, on a 2,711 mm wheelbase.

Three powertrains are offered. The entry engine is a 1.5-litre EcoBoost with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, rated at 150 PS with a 6-speed manual gearbox, front-wheel drive only. A 2.5-litre full hybrid pairs the engine with an electric motor and a CVT automatic, with no plug required - 180 PS in front-wheel drive, or 183 PS with all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid uses the same 2.5-litre base engine with a larger electric motor and a 14.4 kWh battery, for 243 PS combined and around 69 km of electric-only range on the WLTP cycle; it is front-wheel drive only.

Ford and Geely are setting up a joint venture at the Valencia plant, with Ford retaining 66% and Geely taking 34%, aimed at using spare capacity at the site and giving Geely a manufacturing foothold in Europe. The next-generation Kuga is one of the projects that could come out of the partnership, reportedly arriving around 2029 on Geely’s GEA architecture - though Ford has not confirmed the name, powertrains, or timing.
