The Hyundai Ioniq V is a China-only electric fastback built through the Beijing Hyundai joint venture with BAIC Group, unveiled at Auto China 2026 in April and opened for pre-orders on 21 August 2026 at the Chengdu Auto Show. It is the first model in a planned run of 20 new vehicles the partners committed to launching in China over five years, backed by an 8 billion yuan (~$1.2 billion) investment. The car measures 4,900 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,470 mm tall on a 2,900 mm wheelbase, placing it in the midsize segment, and introduces Hyundai’s new “The Origin” design language for its China EV lineup.
Three trims are offered. The 540 Max opens the range at 119,900 yuan ($17,700) and the 540 Max+ costs 129,900 yuan ($19,200); both use a 53.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack from CATL with a 140 kW (188 hp) front motor for 540 km of CLTC range. The 650 Max+ costs 139,900 yuan ($20,600) and pairs a 66.8 kWh CATL LFP pack with a 168 kW (225 hp) motor for 650 km. All three run the 800-volt version of Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, so they accept higher DC charging power than a 400-volt car on the same charger. The range figures are CLTC, the Chinese test cycle, which returns higher numbers than WLTP or EPA testing.
Inside, the Ioniq V is built around a 27-inch 4K panoramic display running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, paired with a head-up display. The infotainment uses AI models from Baidu and ByteDance, and the driver-assistance system was co-developed with Momenta, supporting L2+ assisted driving on highways.
Official sales in China begin in September 2026. Hyundai has said an extended-range version may join the lineup later but has not released specifications, pricing or a date for it.
