The Kwid is Renault’s entry car in Brazil, a 3,720 mm hatchback with raised ground clearance and SUV-style body protection, built at the Ayrton Senna complex in Sao Jose dos Pinhais since 2017. It was first sold in India in 2015 on the CMF-A platform and reached Brazil two years later with a locally developed body and interior. The 2027 model year is its second major facelift, and it arrived alongside the withdrawal of the electric Kwid E-Tech from the Brazilian range, which leaves the petrol car as the cheapest Renault sold in the country.
One powertrain is offered across the range. The 1.0-litre SCe is a naturally aspirated three-cylinder flex engine, rated at 71 cv (70 hp) and 98 Nm running on ethanol and 68 cv (67 hp) and 92 Nm on petrol, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. There is no automatic option and no turbocharged version. Renault quotes 14.4 km/l in town and 15.4 km/l on the highway on petrol. Ground clearance is 185 mm, the approach angle is 24.1 degrees and the departure angle 41.7 degrees, and the boot holds 290 litres, or 1,100 litres with the rear bench folded.
The facelift is mostly cabin and front-end work. The grille is new, in gloss black, with a redesigned front bumper and the current Renault lozenge badge, and the daytime running lights and rear light signature switch to LEDs. Inside, the driver gets a seven-inch digital instrument display in place of the old part-analogue cluster, and the Techno and Outsider carry a 10.1-inch Media Evolution touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, up from eight inches. The steering wheel is new across the range.
Three trims replace the previous four. The Evolution is the base car, with air conditioning, four airbags, stability control, electric power steering, LED daytime running lights, front electric windows, a rear parking sensor and stop-start, but no touchscreen. The Techno adds the 10.1-inch screen, a reversing camera, steering-wheel audio controls, electric and gloss-black mirrors, USB-C ports, darkened tail lights and two-tone 14-inch steel wheels. The Outsider tops the range with two-tone paint, roof bars, side and end protection mouldings, front and rear skid-plate trim, faux-leather upholstery, 14-inch two-tone alloy wheels and automatic headlights. Renault lists the Evolution from R$82,790 (about $16,000) and is running launch promotions of R$71,090 (~$13,800), R$75,990 (~$14,700) and R$84,890 (~$16,400) across the three trims, with no published end date.
