The ID.Era 8X is the third model in SAIC-Volkswagen’s ID.Era family for China, after the 9X crossover and the 5S sedan. Volkswagen announced it through China’s MIIT certification filing; a full reveal is expected later in 2026. It is built specifically for the Chinese market.
Positioning. The 8X sits directly below the flagship 9X. It measures 5,020 mm long on a 2,970 mm wheelbase, against 5,207 mm and 3,070 mm for the 9X, and seats five rather than six.
Powertrain. The 8X is an EREV. A 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 143 hp but works purely as a generator, never driving the wheels. Two electric motors deliver a combined 503 hp through all-wheel drive. Two battery options are offered: 51.1 kWh for around 340 km of electric-only range, and 65.2 kWh for around 400 km, both on the WLTC cycle. These are manufacturer figures from the announcement and may change before launch.
Design. The styling mirrors the 9X, with reworked bumpers and headlights and semi-hidden door handles in place of the 9X’s pop-out units. A LiDAR unit sits above the windscreen as standard.
Pricing has not been announced, but the 8X is expected to undercut the 9X.
