The Xpeng GX went on sale in China on 20 May 2026 and booked 25,000 paid orders within 12 hours. Demand has run well ahead of what Xpeng prepared for, and waiting times have already stretched to roughly eight months.
The mix caught Xpeng out
More than 80% of buyers chose the loaded Ultra trim rather than the entry-level Max. Xpeng and its suppliers were not set up for that split, and the company is now restructuring production around it. It expects the effect of those changes to show in two to four weeks.
What the GX is
The GX is Xpeng’s flagship SUV: a six-seat, full-size model on the SEPA 3.0 platform with an 800V electrical system. Air suspension and four-wheel steering are standard, and the driver-assistance system runs on Xpeng’s in-house Turing AI chip. It measures 5,265 mm long on a 3,115 mm wheelbase, with 700 mm of wading depth.
Three powertrains are offered:
- BEV RWD - 367 hp, 91.9 kWh battery, 665 km CLTC
- BEV AWD - 585 hp, 110 kWh battery, 750 km CLTC
- EREV AWD - 503 hp, 63.3 kWh battery, 430 km electric and 1,585 km combined
