Overview

The Aion Ray 7 is a battery-electric fastback and the first model in the Ray line, which GAC Aion introduced in July 2026 as a range aimed at younger buyers. It is also the first car to carry the brand’s redesigned logo. The body measures 4,960 x 1,900 x 1,455 mm on a 2,920 mm wheelbase, with a quoted drag coefficient of 0.22 and five seats. It is longer than either the Aion S Plus sedan or the Aion V SUV, the brand’s two mainstream nameplates.

Drive is to the rear wheels through a Huawei DriveONE permanent-magnet synchronous motor with a peak output of 180 kW (241 hp). Top speed is 180 km/h. Range is 700 km on China’s CLTC cycle, with claimed consumption as low as 9.7 kWh per 100 km on the same cycle. Two versions appear in the MIIT type-approval filing, at 1,720 kg and 1,855 kg unladen, and both use lithium iron phosphate cells: one from CATL, built with the Magazine Battery 2.0 pack construction, and one from Yinpai Battery, GAC Aion’s own cell unit. Pack capacity has not been published.

The driver assistance hardware is Huawei’s. A 192-line lidar sits alongside three 4D millimetre-wave radars in a set of 27 sensors, and GAC Aion says the car can drive itself from one parking space to another. The algorithms share a foundation with WeRide’s Level 4 robotaxi software. Braking is by Huawei’s EMB system, which replaces the hydraulic line between pedal and caliper with an electric actuator at each wheel; GAC Aion quotes a 100 to 0 km/h stopping distance of 33 metres.

The Ray 7 was unveiled on 19 August 2026 and went on public display at the Chengdu auto show on 21 August, in yellow and purple launch colours. Prices and an on-sale date have not been announced.
