The Firefly is a 4,003 mm hatchback on a 2,615 mm wheelbase, the first car from Firefly, the third brand of NIO Inc beside NIO and ONVO. It was launched on 19 April 2025, deliveries in China began on 29 April, and it seats five. Kris Tomasson led the design, built around three circular headlights and a black roof. Unladen weight is 1,492 kg, of which the battery is 314 kg.
Firefly powertrain and charging
A single rear motor drives the car. It produced 105 kW (141 hp) and 200 Nm at launch; an update on 7 April 2026 raised the output to 120 kW (161 hp) and cut 0 to 100 km/h to 7.9 seconds, and NIO delivered the extra power to existing owners over the air. Top speed is 150 km/h. The 42.1 kWh LFP battery comes from Sunwoda and is rated at 420 km on the CLTC cycle.
DC charging peaks at 100 kW, which takes the battery from 10 to 80% in 29 minutes. The pack can be swapped at NIO stations in China. The European car launched with the 105 kW motor and is rated at 330 km on the WLTP cycle; the 120 kW update has been reported only for China. The 420 and 330 km figures describe the same 42.1 kWh pack on different test cycles.
Inside the Firefly
A 13.2-inch central touchscreen and a 6-inch driver display carry the controls. The European specification lists 27 storage spaces, a 404-litre boot and a 92-litre front trunk under the bonnet.
Firefly price and trims
China prices include the battery. The Zizai costs 119,800 yuan (~$17,800) and the Faguang, with a more upmarket interior, 125,800 yuan (~$18,700); leasing the battery separately lowers them to 79,800 and 85,800 yuan, with a monthly fee of 399 yuan (~$59). The Habitat Edition went on sale on 20 July 2026 as the first car in a design-led Halo series, in a single version at 133,300 yuan (~$19,800), or 93,300 yuan (~$13,900) with the battery leased. It adds moss-green paint and fabric, an embossed door-panel pattern and a glowing green logo, on the same motor and battery. Firefly says it will release a new Halo model each year.
In Europe the car is sold with the battery included in the price, from EUR 29,990 in the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria as of December 2025. NIO’s Chinese-built cars carry an additional 31% EU import duty, which accounts for part of the gap to the Chinese prices.
