The second-generation Li L8 slots in just below the flagship L9 and shares almost all of its hardware, but it is now built strictly as a five-seater rather than a six-seat, three-row car. It moves onto Li Auto’s new 800V architecture and is on sale in China.
Powertrain. The L8 uses Li Auto’s extended-range layout: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine acts purely as a generator, never driving the wheels, while two electric motors deliver 571 hp and 710 Nm. A 72.7 kWh battery gives 430 km of electric range on the CLTC cycle, rising to 1,670 km combined once the range extender is counted. With one fewer row than the L9, the L8 reaches 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
Chassis. The Ultra rides on air suspension with rear-wheel steering. The higher Livis swaps in an active 800V electrohydraulic suspension. Driver assistance runs on Li Auto’s Mach M100 processor, rated at 1,280 TOPS - the Ultra carries one chip and one lidar, the Livis two chips and four lidar units.
Interior. A head-up projection display replaces the instrument cluster, paired with a single 29-inch central media screen and a 21-inch ceiling screen for the rear passengers. Materials run to Nappa leather, with heating, ventilation and massage on every seat, ottomans for the rear chairs, and a 27-speaker audio system.
Exterior. The new body has more steeply raked rear pillars, the rear plate moves down onto the tailgate, and the door handles sit semi-flush. Two-tone paint is available.
Pricing. The L8 Ultra starts at ¥369,800 (about $54,300) and the L8 Livis at ¥429,800 (about $63,100). No markets outside China have been announced.
