The Omoda 4 is a compact crossover in Omoda’s numbered range, and the one Chery has chosen as the first car it will build in South Africa. It is sold as the Omoda C4 there and as the Omoda O4 in Indonesia, where the electric version was launched in July 2026.
Omoda 4 EV powertrain, range and charging
The Indonesian car has a single motor on the front axle making 160 kW (218 PS) and 275 Nm, and reaches 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, according to Omoda. The battery is a 65.05 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack with a range of 553 km on the NEDC cycle. DC charging peaks at 119 kW, and 20 to 80 percent takes 22 minutes.
Omoda 4 markets and production
The same body is planned with petrol and hybrid powertrains in other markets, and Chery has said South Africa will receive petrol, hybrid and electric versions. Imported cars are expected there from early 2027, ahead of local assembly at the Rosslyn plant from the third quarter of 2027, with the hybrid first in line. Specifications for the hybrid and petrol versions had not been published when this page was written, so they are not listed here.
