Overview

The Subaru Outback enters its seventh generation for the 2025-2026 model years with its biggest shift in three decades: the body moves from the long-running station wagon to a taller, more conventional five-door SUV shape, while keeping the raised ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive the nameplate is known for. It is built in Gunma, Japan.

The standard engine is a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Subaru Boxer four-cylinder producing 180 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, offered on the Premium, Limited and Touring trims. A turbocharged 2.4-litre Boxer with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft powers the Limited XT, Touring XT and the off-road-oriented Wilderness, which raises ground clearance to 9.5 inches versus 8.7 inches standard. Both engines run through a Lineartronic CVT with an 8-speed manual shift mode, and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard across the entire range.

The cabin gains a 12.1-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster standard on every trim. EyeSight Driver Assist Technology comes standard, and the Touring and Touring XT add Subaru’s Highway Hands-Free Assist.

US pricing starts at $34,995 for the Premium and runs to $47,995 for the range-topping Touring XT, before a $1,450 destination charge ($1,600 to Alaska). The Wilderness trim reached dealers in early 2026, following the rest of the lineup.
