Tiguan

ICE SUV On Sale
From
$30,805
USA, Sep 2026

The current Volkswagen Tiguan sold in North America is what Volkswagen itself calls the third generation of the US/Canada Tiguan lineage, though mechanically it switched to a long-wheelbase body shared with the China-market Tayron rather than continuing the shorter Tiguan Europe still sells under its own separate generation count. It replaces the previous US Tiguan's optional third row with a fixed five-seat layout. It runs a 2.0-litre turbo four making 201 hp on S, SE and SE R-Line Black trims, or 268 hp on the AWD-only SEL R-Line Turbo. US pricing starts at $30,805.

Overview

Volkswagen’s own US pricing announcement calls the Tiguan sold in North America since the 2025 model year the third generation of the US Tiguan lineage, but mechanically it moved onto a long-wheelbase body that Volkswagen also sells in China as the Tayron - a different car from the separately-numbered Tiguan Europe continues to sell. Where Europe keeps a shorter, separate Tiguan alongside its own long-wheelbase Tayron, North America has no such split: this stretched design, 4,684 mm (184.4 in) long on a 2,791 mm (109.9 in) wheelbase, is simply called Tiguan there. It replaces the previous US Tiguan’s optional seven-seat layout with a fixed five-seat cabin, and both cars share the MQB Evo platform underneath despite looking and measuring differently.

Every US trim runs a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic. The S, SE and SE R-Line Black trims use a 201 hp tune, with front-wheel drive standard and 4MOTION all-wheel drive optional. A new-for-2026 SEL R-Line Turbo trim gets a more highly boosted version of the same 2.0-litre engine making 268 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm), with 4MOTION standard, a jump Volkswagen made by fitting a physically larger turbocharger and strengthening the engine internals.

Inside, the Tiguan carries Volkswagen’s current digital interior, with a 12-inch touchscreen standard and a 15-inch unit available on the top SEL R-Line Turbo trim, alongside a fully digital driver’s display and VW’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver-assistance features. Cargo space runs to 33.8 cubic feet (957 L) behind the rear seats and 69.8 cubic feet (1,976 L) with them folded.

US pricing starts at $30,805 for the front-wheel-drive S and rises to $43,085 for the all-wheel-drive SEL R-Line Turbo, before destination charges. Volkswagen builds the North American Tiguan at its Puebla, Mexico plant.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Volkswagen Tiguan cost?
The Volkswagen Tiguan starts from $30,805 (USA, Sep 2026).
How powerful is the Volkswagen Tiguan?
The Volkswagen Tiguan produces up to 201 hp.
What type of car is the Volkswagen Tiguan?
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a Compact SUV.
Is the US Volkswagen Tiguan the same car as the European Tiguan?
No. Volkswagen sells two different cars under the Tiguan name. Europe keeps a shorter five-seat Tiguan on its own body, sold alongside a separate long-wheelbase Tayron with an optional third row. North America imports only the long-wheelbase design and calls it Tiguan, since there is no separate Tiguan/Tayron split in that market. Both share the MQB Evo platform underneath, but the sheetmetal, wheelbase and interior differ.
Is the Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?
Volkswagen backs the Tiguan with its standard US new-car warranty: 4 years/50,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and 5 years/60,000 miles on the powertrain, plus 3 years of roadside assistance. The current generation is new for the 2025 model year, so it has no multi-year US reliability track record yet independent of that warranty coverage.
What are the Volkswagen Tiguan trim levels and prices?
S from $30,805, SE from $33,605 and SE R-Line Black from $37,245, all with the 201 hp engine, followed by the SEL R-Line Turbo from $43,085 with the 268 hp engine and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive. 4MOTION adds roughly $1,500 to the S, SE and SE R-Line Black.
