Overview

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan platform and positioning

The ID. Tiguan is the electric SUV that takes over from both the ID.4 and the coupe-style ID.5 in early 2027, on the MEB+ platform. The petrol, diesel and hybrid Tiguan stays on sale beside it. Volkswagen calls its “Pure Positive” design language a move away from the softer crossover shape of its predecessors, and the car returns to pull-style door handles.

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan range and charging

There are three versions. A 140 kW (190 PS) rear-wheel drive car carries a 58 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery for up to 450 km WLTP, charges at up to 105 kW and takes about 26 minutes for 10 to 80%. The other two share a 77 kWh nickel manganese cobalt pack and charge at up to 165 kW, with 10 to 80% in as little as 29 minutes. A 210 kW (286 PS) rear-wheel drive version has an expected 600 km WLTP, and a 220 kW (299 PS) 4MOTION all-wheel drive version has up to 560 km and a 0-100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds. The 140 kW car needs 8.5 seconds. Volkswagen’s own release gives a single “up to 600 km” for the range and no per-version split. All three take 11 kW AC.

Towing is rated at up to 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery and up to 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh battery.

Inside the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan

The cabin is built around a 10-inch driver display, a 15-inch central screen and, for the first time in a European Volkswagen, a 12-inch co-driver display with a privacy mode that routes sound to Bluetooth headphones. The basic climate functions sit on a button bar and the volume on a controller on the centre console. A “Retro” display mode shows the blue and red instruments of the Golf IV, with the rev counter turned into a power meter, and the infotainment screen offers a virtual garage of six Volkswagens from the Golf I to the Race Touareg.

The boot holds up to 534 litres, and up to 1,577 litres with the rear seats folded, and there is a 32-litre frunk. One-pedal driving is standard. Connected Travel Assist, which can change lanes on a motorway and stop the car at a red light, is new. Massage and ventilated front seats, a 480-watt Harman Kardon system and a panoramic roof are options, and a Digital Key and a Vehicle-to-Load adapter for the charging socket are available. The four trims are Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan price and trims

Volkswagen set pre-sales to start in Germany and many other European countries on 13 October 2026 at prices from €42,695, with deliveries from early 2027. Its release does not say which version or trim that entry price applies to. The car is due in Australia in the first half of 2027.
