VW ID. Polo orders outrun Martorell capacity

Volkswagen has confirmed more than 30,000 European orders for the ID. Polo, with dealers quoting a minimum ten-month wait on individually configured cars - order now and delivery falls in May-June 2027. The company points to demand and to planned capacity at its Martorell plant. Sibling MEB+ models show the same pattern: Skoda has over 35,000 orders for the Epiq, and the Cupra Raval is booked out for months.

Volkswagen has confirmed more than 30,000 European orders for the ID. Polo, with Germany running well past the company’s initial expectations. Per Automobilwoche, dealers are quoting a minimum ten-month wait on an individually configured car - order today and delivery falls in May or June 2027. Ready-configured stock cars arrive sooner.

Why the wait is this long

Volkswagen attributes the backlog to demand outpacing planned capacity at Martorell, the SEAT-operated plant near Barcelona building the ID. Polo alongside SEAT and Cupra models. The ID. Polo entered production there in June 2026, and the line has not yet caught up with order volume six months in.

The car behind the queue

The base ID. Polo starts at €24,995 in Germany with 114 hp, a 37 kWh LFP battery and up to 334 km WLTP. A 52 kWh version reaches 208 hp and 454 km, and a hotter ID. Polo GTI at 226 hp is due to follow. All three share the front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform.

The pattern extends across the platform

The ID. Polo is one of three related electric hatchbacks sharing Martorell and the same underpinnings. Skoda reports more than 35,000 orders for its Epiq, and dealers say the Cupra Raval is booked out months ahead. All three cars are part of Volkswagen Group’s Electric Urban Car Family, a shared-platform project the group has said saves around 600 million euros over developing each model separately - a saving that assumed demand roughly this size.
